First things first, Pocketables have a full review of the Viliv N5 up. They seem to be very happy with the device although there’s confirmation that there’s no video-out port. It’s been blanked-off. Click-through for the full review.

After you’ve read the review, don’t forget that despite the high possibility that my N5 won’t turn up in time, JKKMobile is getting his and we’re planning a live session. This will happen today (Monday 28th) at 2130 CEST (1230pm San Francisco. Other times here.) on the UMPCPortal and JKKMobile live channel.

Update: Live review is finished now but the recordings are available.

Specifications, information, images and links for the Viliv N5 here.

There will be a live video and audio feed along with a chat channel for questions and discussions. I hope you can make it. I hope my Viliv N5 can make it too! If not, my UMID BZ will be there as a comparison. We’ll try and include comparison thoughts about the UH900 too.

We will try to record the main part of the session.

See you on the live channel and follow/check here for any late announcements/updates.

Update: Live review is finished now but the recordings are available.

Fantastic, so you’ll be giving us a much more thrilling evening’s viewing than a certain sporting event last night!!!

And after a full day I trust that JKK will have had more than enough time to mod his unit (faster SSD, more RAM possible?) ;-)

  6. Corzair says:

A tad dissapointed about no optical out but this N5 looks like a great machine sort of how Psion5 would be if made for today…
the screen looks a bit small also but i look forward to tonight’s show..
And Yeah I too reckon it will be more enjoyable then England getting Mauled yesterday how very disappointing that was – but hey rockon on viliv ;-)

Agree 100%. Had a Psion 3a, 3c, 5mx and have been wishing for a modern equivalent for years … and with total PC compatibility, none of that PsiWin synchronization pain you might remember :-)

I’m also surprised that there’s a pull-out aerial for 3G (according to Jenn on Pocketables): I had thought that would be just on Korean models for TV reception … Would make an ideal location for a stylus silo ;-)

Can’t wait for a more technical review of the N5. I prefer your reviews since you seem to know more about the technical aspects of devices than just the external appearances.

the antenna is a pain. it has already been there on the x70. with antenna pushed in you get noise through the speakers when loading files via hspa. also there are often disconnects or bad coverage without the antenna pulled out. my oldschool vaio p does this better than the viliv and like a charm without an external antenna… so this is a hard pain for me on the n5. also the old cpu is annoying to me. lets wait for the live session to get some qestions set to the guys…

We’re just getting ready to go liv in 20. I managed to get the N5 from customs too so we’ll have two for the review. Hope to see you all there.
