the u560 is here.

So far its quite impressive. Good keyboard (but complicated), good screen and impressive battery life.
Im using it to type this.

Its not as good as the oqo but feels as fast (video seems faster) and ive heard that the price is extremely competitive. Waiting to hear final word on price.

Slider mechanism is a bit clunky. similar to gigabyte u60.

fan noise similar to oqo. need to do long term heat testing but i think its better than oqo

windows xp is fast (1gb on a110)

for me this is nicer than wibrain b1 so far.

Will do a few videos tonight and get those up tomorrow.

Feel free to ask questions.

Steve

A picture showing relative size next to an Everun would be nice...

I'm testing it at 600Mhz with low screen right now to see how long it takes at room temp for the fan to come on...

Nope. It still comes on after ten mins.

Damn, thanks for trying.

Had slightly high hopes for this in the wait for the MIDs to arrive...

Its a very MID-like device in terms of form factor of course (slider, screen size) but a lot fatter.
I really like the fact that they've put a mouse pointer on it.

Web cam works but isn't any good in low light and the rotating cam housing feels like it might break.

Battery life low measurement: 6.5W drain. Average seems to be 9-10w which is the same as Q1 Ultra, Q1 b. Its got a 30wh battery so you're looking at 3h surfing time (a little more than the WiBrain) and maybe 4 hours typing, wifi off or reading.

As is usualy with Amtek ,the buttons are good quality.

No rotate feature which is dissapointing as it could make an excelent reader (good screen, high PPI, feels nice in one hand-portrait mode)

No 800x480 option dissapoints. Running IE7 with 125% zoom is good for browsing though. (FOr me - eyes not perfect.)

Stereo speakers OK ( a first for Amtek!)

return from standby - 6 seconds. (straight into working XP. No VIsta tricks)

Soft touch screen

Video playback, wifi on, high screen brightness - 11W drain. Good!

40gb hdd is partitioned in to 2. (approx 16GB each)

BT stack is BlueSoleil (A2DP is possible)

Key backlighting good but only highlights main chars (making punctuation doubly difficult to find - A lot of practice will be needed to get used to the layout for punctuation.

Typing text is very fast. I'm typing immediately faster than the Wibrain, Q1 Ultra (suprise) and Medion (gigabyte U60)

XP responsiveness very very good for a UMPC

Screen has a clear, gloss finish. Brightness is up there with the best.

Stylus is an expandable type but long and thick. (Same as T700 and T770 I think)

CF slot on top could be very useful. Havent tested speed yet)

Nice that it has a stand. ITs a bit cheap and plastiky though

More later.....

Is it XP or XP Tablet?

Is the keyboard noisy?

I was either between getting a Wibrain or this. I finally got the Wibrain. This looks interesting as well (especially the keyboard), but the high fan noise and no 800x480 ruins it for me.

Its running XP home (it's not Tablet for sure!)

Keyboard is 'clicky'.
Fan noise is about the same as WiBrain. POssibly stays quieter longer but it's dependant on a lot of things.

Have made a few videos this evening which i'll post tomorrow.

It runs Call of Duty demo well.

Wifi is strong.

WebCam is a bit shitty but seems to perfrom. Need to do more tests on that.

6mbps Divx should be no problem. 2-3mbps WMV9 too. You Tube is perfect. All online media I tried worked.

Its quite a chunky little fella but I think more attractive than WiBrain.

Easier to use than WiBrain (keyboard is better despite some really difficult-to-achieve keys.)

No 800x480 is a pain.

CF slot is a bonus. (I wonder if you can get SD/CF adaptors?)

Steve.

Surely 800x480 is just a driver issue that could be solved?

Perhaps worth pointing out to your suppliers?

Noise factor probably leaves it and the WiBrain dead in the water for me (although I have to admit the styling on the WB pretty much left it for dead in my eyes already).

Bring on the next one please...

Great pics. Thanks.

I have to admit I imagined it was going to be a bit closer to the Everun in size.
