Q1b Pricing. Images. Hands-on by Winfuture.de

Posted on 04 September 2006, Last updated on 16 March 2019 by

So that just about confirms everything now. Winfuture.de have published hands-on news and images (German) about the Q1b.

1ghz VIA C7-M ULV based, longer battery life (untested. Claimed 60% more than Q1), brighter screen (+30%), HSDPA capability and there’s more.

[Update: It’s not smaller. It will use the same sized case as the existing Q1.]

Its going to be smaller and priced the same as the existing Q1. That’s $ Euro1199 in Germany.

The compact flash slot goes to make way for the HSDPA slot with a theoretical limit of 14.4Mbps. Also being removed is the Ethernet port. Some re-positioning of other ports and switches has also been necessary.

The article also mention that the Q1 will continue but, as I thought, will be reduced in price.

Thanks to Winfuture.de for allowing us to reprint the images they took at IFA today. Click to enlarge.

is’t it 1199 euros not dollars?

Aw, they got rid of the microphone array? Dang, I find that quite useful. The size reduction is nice, but I don’t know if it’s worth giving up the mics and speakers.

As to the wireless data instead of the CF2 slot, fine by me. I have yet to use the CF2 on mine… my other units use either SD or (gasp!) SmartMedia. Losing the Ethernet is a little more worrying, but I’ve only used it the once.

Nice to see some more variety in the line, in any case!

    Thanks JKK. Euros it is.

Steve. I think losing Ethernet and CF slot is worth it. Shame there’s no docking solution with the Q1.

is it just me or do one of the pictures on the german site say that it has 448mb of RAM, so indicating that there will be only 512mb of RAM instead of the 1GB that was speculated??

Correct me if i am wrong though…

    Hi Geoff.

Thats the 512MB with 64Mb taken away for use by graphics co-processor.

    Steve.

    Hi Steve,

Indeed that is what I thought, but in previous posts on carrypad and other UMPC related sites, it was said that the Samsung Q1b would come with 1024mb of RAM instead of the 512mb of RAM of the Q1 has now.

However the better battery life, brighter display, VIA processor and HDSPA still make it a cool UMPC. Upgrading the RAM can be done yourself…

    Confused of Kerpen here.
You say above it will not be smaller..ie using the same case but winfuture pics show a size comparison.. How does that work then ??

    Cheers

    Hi Confused of Kerpen.

At first I thought it was smaller and then winfuture contacted me to say ‘no’ it just looks smaller in the photos.
