Following on from the Euro availability note, I now have some news via jkOnTheRun that the P1610 is available for pre-order and its bad news for Europe again. Its priced way way below the Euro price I’ve seen. The price difference is about the same as a flight to the U.S. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Anyway, to add a bit of value to the story, I’ve found out that Vodafone.de have a list of UMTS capable notebook PC’s
In the list is the “Next Available” P1610 no less. Although Vodafone don’t sell the devices, they are obviously happy to promote them.
Sadly the Q1b is not in there – its supposed to be released in Germany with HSDPA support but I haven’t seen any news yet. Also missing is the Flybook V33i Broadband.
I’m sure (in fact I hear whispers) that we’re just a short step away from the carriers offering UMPCs. Quite what form it will take yet I don’t know but here’s the Carrypad ultra mobile PC data bundle (not currently available!)
- 24 month data-only contract
- 45 Euro per month flat rate.
- 50% subsidy on the cost of a UMTS or HSDPA capable UMPC.
