Here’s a great tip for anyone traveling to the UK and wanting short-term internet access via 3G. Three UK offer a pay as you go card (10 pounds) and the ability to add a fair flat internet access for just £2.60 for a week. (or 5 quid for a month!) Its an absolute bargain and not only gives your phone Internet access but, of course, a UK number too. There’s no need to have a UK address or to provide any form of ID (which i was suprised at!) and adding the Internet access is done online. There’s no proxy to configure, just set the AP to three.co.uk. Note that its only port 80/443 access (no ftp, ssh, rdp, im, etc) but these days, almost anything can be done through port 80!
In theory, you are not allowed to tether PCs using this method. In practice, it works. I used my Everun x86-based ‘smartphone’ last week and it worked like a dream. Thanks 3 UK. Now if only I could do this in Germany. Does anyone have anything similar to this in their own country?
