Its Friday, I have some cool beers n the fridge and a new ultra mobile PC to unbox. If you fancy joining me, asking questions or just watching the live video and chat from the sidelines I’m happy to host a live session.
As I mentioned, I have the new Gigabyte M704 UMPC which has just arrived in Europe at Mobilx (aff.) and I also have Ubuntu Mobile Running on the Q1 Ultra UMPC. As usual, i’ll try and answer all your ultra mobile PC questions, just don’t leave it too long otherwise the fridge will be empty and i’ll be in bed!
Camera is on now at UMPCPortal.com/live where i’m just going to run off an unboxing and intro video then we can chat a bit later.
In what significant way does this device differ from the U60?
Thanks,
Lor

@Anvar…go to ubuntu mobile website and the wiki explains how to install it…then you’ll find out if it suits or not. that’s the fun with linux, you can try it, help improving and not paying a single cent for it!!
i know, but i dont own a MID or UMPC yet, im among the 100’s waiting for M528, so before i spend my hard earned money i have to make it sure it worths ;) .. thats y always spending time one these blogs….
How did Ubuntu Mobile on the Q1 Ultra go? I’ve heard of earlier attempts to install Ubuntu (non-mobile) on the Q1 that had trouble with the touch screen and such. If it works fine with all of the hardware, that’d make me more likely to get one.
And, as a generic Ubuntu Mobile question: does it have any kind of virtual keyboard support (the windows software for Q1 (basic) has a virtual translucent split-thumb keyboard for typing, and I’m hoping for a similar solution on Ubuntu Mobile, where you can still see the underlying app that you’re typing into, and it doesn’t take any screen real-estate away from the underlying app — both problems I have with the iPhone and N800 virtual keyboards).
Ubuntu mobile seems quite stable. Everything works except the cam. Unfortunately i had so much fun with the 704 that i didnt get round to doing any UME demos!
Steve
dude bust out that M704!
This is the second time I visit your blog and find an interesting article perfectly matching what I was searching for so I decided to add your feed to my RSS Reader. Thanks for you work.
