Expansys have just put up their Aspire One prices in the UK (and for delivery EU-wide) with the Linux version plus 512MB and an 80GB HDD going for just 244 pounds. There’s no mention of the SSD version yet but with the 80GB version going for that price, only those looking for ruggedness or the best possible battery life will be waiting. Prices are also available for XP and 1GB versions here. (affiliate link)
As for delivery dates, neither Acer or Expansys can fill me in on that one yet but I’m working hard on it, if only for my own order! (I’m probably going for the 1GB, 8GB Linux version when it turns up.)
Thanks Phil, Expansys.
Nice. I hope it hits the US soon. MSI may have lost my business with their launch, so we’ll see how Acer turns out. I wish they had the mouse buttons under the trackpad, and maybe a slight larger keyboard, but I supposed those are small adjustments. Looks like a promising product from acer. I’m just glad they are showing some Linux support on the hardware side and leaving it down to the stripped down version.
If you like MSI Wind PC and you are going to use your netbook a lot, wait for MSI.
MSI has BT, while Acer Aspire One does not, MSI has bigger screen (which of course always is better), MSI has better cooling because of the special design, the keyboard is bigger too and it looks that MSI is going to cost lower or maybe the same. I think MSI was delayed because of Atom CPU which is really hard to get for OEM.
@ david
what do you mean by special design for cooling?
Look at the sides and the bottom of MSI Wind, there are a lot of vents made to run it cooler.
cheers.
After your post, I’ve done a quick search here in Italy and here what I’ve found:
http://shoponline.euronics.it/prod/informatica/40/personal%20computer/40G/pc%20notebook/0900/acer/3005/aspire%20one%20a110l%20seashell%20white/802006310.aspx?from=kelkoo
So this should be the 8Gb/512Ram model, but it’s not clear if it’s with Xp or Linux. The netbook is still not available.
Would love to know why you’re planning to go for this one rather than the MSI Wind?
The reason this one is my likely purchase rather that the MSI wind, is the price. £199 is £100+ cheaper.
I note on the expansis site for example, that the description of the Linux one states that the MSI linux versions will be 8.9″, 0.3 camera and 512mb ram, and no bluetooth (the specs contradict the text). So that’s the same as this but more than £100+, just for an 80gb HD?
Even with the better ram, screen and webcam, £200 is just a really sweet spot for me, it’s why the eeePC was so attractive.
Will you be able to upgrade the ram yourself in this?
It’s on Play.com now too
