Ultra Mobile Projector. ADPP-100 from Adapt.

How about this for an ultra mobile gadget? There’s no confirmed specs, pricing or availability yet but I’m loving the idea of having a mini projector for my UMPC. It obviously has a video-input (fingers crossed for VGA) and can play back some content from an internal or SD Card memory. You could create havoc in a nightclub! I’ll see if we can get one of these for a test from the Adapt Mobile people.

This looks a lot like another pocket projector being sold at Conrad electronics in Germany. “Aiptek Pocket Cinema V10 Taschenbeamer” for 299 Euros.

  2. chippy says:

    It does.
The av input on that one looks like its composite which means it wont work with many laptops or umpcs.

That device appears to be the Mint V10 (an Australian manufacturer Mint Wireless, distributed by Aiptek in Australia and New Zealand).

Priced at $699 with availability stated to be 30th September 2008.

Screen resolution is said to be 640 x 480 pixels with brightness at approximately 100 lumen’s, capable of displaying an image 130cms across from a distance of 1.8m. The room had better be dark though (you’ll notice the video appeared to be displayed in a photo studio with near virtual darkness, you WON’T be using this device in the local Starbucks, well not unless there’s a power cut).

I’m in Sydney next month, I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Oops got Mint Wirelss and Aiptek distribution the wrong way round.

Without looking into it I’m guessing this is an LED based projector? It would be quite cool if cheap enough.

However, the laser based pico-projectors look to be far more interesting to me (possibly smaller, brighter and with more vibrant colours).

  6. Marc says:

Nice idea in principle, if I could turn up with something the size of this and the Everun at presentations I’d be laughing.

But in reality I’m not sure this is bright enough for serious use, even if it had appropriate media connections…

  7. JP says:

Humm are you serious when you’re wanting a VGA input? I mean, taking a VGA cable with you would take more space than this projector itself! Unless it is some special VGA cable that would be especially short and slim, that’s not very “mobile”.

Best would be USB or wireless, don’t know how they could do that…

  8. Marc says:

USB monitors are now possible. I have a 19″ one here on my desk that allows me to get dual screen display from a laptop that would normally only support one external display.

I think I can chain four of them together too.

    Very clever stuff.

  9. JP says:

So you agree with me that VGA input would be a bad idea and that USB would be better :-)

  10. Marc says:

Portability wise, yes, but ease of use with a variety of devices no.

I’m just saying it would be possible!

  11. John says:

Yeah but didn’t you watch the video, theres a 1GB internal memory and SD card slot, so what do you need cables for, just install data direct onto the device!!!
I’ve seen something similar from 3M, but thats not got internal memory or SD card slot, but price is fairly good EUR399.00.

  12. JP says:

Maybe you want to show your desktop? Maybe you’re running a live demonstration of your latest product? Maybe the firmware of the device can’t read the latest codecs of your movie? Maybe the movie will be streamed over 3G, Wifi or Ethernet?

SD card and internal storages should be a big plus, not the main point according to me.

  13. Marc says:

    Exactly!

But unless it gets a lot brighter it’s no real use anyway…

  14. turn.self.off says:

hmm, i cant help but wonder how hard it would be to turn this into a home built ms surface ;)

  15. ProDigit says:

So it seems like you can’t really connect it to any laptop I guess…

It’s a nice device, which I hope companies will update to more advanced specs if possible.

It’d be nice to have a device like this to watch your HD movies on a 2 by 1 meter ‘screen/wall/paper'(for lack of words).

  16. Vakeros says:

You can connect to a laptop but not through VGA. You need the correct connectors.
I got a price for one (which is very similiar, if not the same) and it was 699 euros. A company in Ireland is selling them. That price includes 21% VAT.
