I gather you didn’t do this one live? I missed it if you did… anyway, carry on, it’s fun to follow stuff with you guys! Still waiting on Sascha to finally reveal everything about the VIA Nano.

Are there any unboxings or live sessions with new hardware coming up?

  2. haonline says:

I love the the new convertibles / tablets and think it would be the future with the new multi-touch.

  3. haonline says:

woops forgot to mention.. via nano!

  4. EC says:

    JKK,

You sure you have an SSD that will fit/work with the OQO?

Note this from Adam Gould (“adamg”)

“Our chipset supports PATA only. We have not seen any manufacturers offering a 1.8” PATA SSD with capacity higher than 64 GB and certainly there are no 64GB PATA SSDs with a price point of $150. If anyone sees anything to the contrary, please let me know and I will certainly pass it along to our purchasing group. There are multiple manufacturers making 128 GB 1.8” SATA, but again, we cannot use SATA drives in the OQO due to size limitations.”

    EC, sure I’m sure:

    It’s 1.8 inch zif pata…

  6. EC says:

OK it seems Adam updated his post:

    “EDIT

Sorry for the mistake. the 2+ can take an 8mm form factor 1.8” drive.

    « Last Edit: January 14, 2009, 07:36:40 PM by adamg »

    From have stated before that:

I don’t believe anything other then the 5mm form factor will work. 3mm might as well be a kilometer in the OQO…

I just recall being down this road before when it came to OQO drives including contacting Toshiba at the time about larger drives.

  7. EC says:

But wait a minute even at 5mm space req their 64GB would still fit!?

    “Low cost 1.8” Zif/PATA SSD solution in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB (5mm) and a special 128GB (8mm).”

Call the show : (The) Three Stooges Mobile ! ;)

.. some quick thoughts to keep the progress going.

The OQO car holder (GPS package)

Then there is also the third party holder by Swedish “BRODIT” that can easily teamed up with any generic holder or the very nice car specific holder from Brodit themselves (look around on their site!), see next post for LINKS:

  11. EC says:

    VIA NANO!? :)

  12. tal says:

CTL 2go, new on the database as Brad from Liliputing added it. Worth mentioning as well. It is being the first convertible under 500$, already sold, and might be stronger than the T91 (its Asus equivalent).

  13. animatio says:

    sony P … let’s call it a “fashionbook”

  14. Chippy says:

    Like it. LOL

  15. animatio says:

in addition to tal’s remark: fitting the ctl 2go with a 64/128 gb ssd would make a nice outdoor book. as a field researcher i would like one.

  16. EC says:

So does £300.00 or $440 or so change your mind about the Sony VAIO P???

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001PO5UH8/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

It could really become tempting if it starts to compete with the Netbooks like that in price!!!

  17. animatio says:

i’d just say … OOOOPPPPPsss. hardly launched and already cut in half. What’s going on? change vista against ubuntu or puppy linux and it might have a go

  18. EC says:

I just remembered that I believe it was one of the Sony reps at the Sony booth at CES who was specifically assigned to the Vaio P who indicated that “No XP, ONLY Vista” and claimed there will not be any XP support or even possibility to run XP, just remembered this not sure how valid that statment is?

  19. DrNick says:

    VIA Nano! LOL

  20. animatio says:

sony vaio p on amazon …. no prize visible anymore …

  21. DM says:

    Definitely VIA Nano!

  22. Will says:

I’m skeptical about the Pegatron’s claims of 8 hour battery life with a low-capacity 3-cell battery. Even with the reduced power requirements of the ARM SoC, we all know the main source of power drain in an Atom-based netbook will be the screen and the 3G and/or WiFi radio.

I think JKK made an important point that if he used his ARM-based netbook with the radio on, presumably accessing the net and watching videos, the battery life isn’t particularly great either.

My ARM-based phone could last several days on standby but if I use it continuously in “MID-mode”, watching videos, checking emails and surfing the internet, it will die in a matter of hours.

  23. Will Plaice says:

Thanks guys nice to hear the latest, who’s gonna get a viao-p first ?

    vianano !

  24. satch says:

    via nano!
