VAIO P will be available with 1.86GHz CPU, but it’ll cost you

I’m sure more than a few of you winced at the notion that the VAIO P would be trying to run Vista on a 1.33GHz Atom (Silverthorne) CPU. Probably not worth the increase in price, but jkOnTheRun has received word from Dynamism that the VAIO P will be available with CPUs up to 1.86GHz. The top model, configured with 2GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, will feature the 1.86GHz CPU, and cost you $1899, $400 more than the otherwise similarly configured model with a 1.33GHz CPU.

AT that price, the Panasonic R8 is definitely a much, much better buy.

I am sooo disappointed. Doesn’t the atom processor cost like 50 bucks to produce? I mean great design, great portability but I just hate it when manufacturers expect me to bend over. Not cool!

There are two different concepts of the Atom really. One set of their CPUs are designed for low power, mass production, cheap costs. The other set, which the VAIO P is using, are designed for small size, super lower power usage.

Ahhhhh….., I’ll take two please….!!!! :-) Now this is a device that has all the right features included. With this I don’t need to reach for any other peripherals to complete my work life. I have this and I’m good for everything. No excuses….!!!! :-)

Sorry OQO 2+…, but if you don’t add those few little additions I have requested “Sony” gets our money.

You have 6 months to comply.

I don’t see what the big deal is. Some of us look forward to the idea of lopping off body parts, running up the middle of highway 95 in the dark with our eyes closed to see if we can make it to our friends in Canada before a semi truck hits us, or running vista on a low powered 1.3ghrz machine. From where I stand Canada is only fourty miles or so and if I froth at the mouth and gnaw on the plastic of my vaio in frustration–I’m sure that it (the vaio)has been optimized to be non-toxic. (Likewise Vista too has been optimized). We Window’s’ Mobile fans have gotten used to one window anyhow (and crippled internet capability), so Vista with only one window and a less than optimal internet ability will be a step up for us. Anyway, $500 buys alot of life insurance, I’m thinking. And when windows seven comes along , whoever inherit our viao will be able to afford it! :)
