I’m afraid I don’t have time to do a written review of my Windows 7 experience with the U820 but I can say that it’s good. So good that I took some time this morning to quickly go over the device and how it works with Windows 7. Highlights for me (over the Vista build I was running) are: Improved boot-up time Cleaner, quicker, more reliable log-in using fingerprint reader Divx and H.264 support out of the box. Hardware support for H.264 decoding out of the box Great battery life […]

Woot seems to have a thing for Asus’ Eee PC. It seems like at least once a month they offer one up for sale. Today marks an interesting new point for Woot in terms of Eee PCs. Today is the first time that they are selling an Atom powered Eee. Coming in the form of the Eee 900A; the refurbished unit with a 4GB SSD, 1GB of RAM, and a 1024×600 8.9″ screen, can be yours today for only $160. This one is running Linux but you can put another […]

There’s a lot of excitement around the MiFi ‘personal hotspot’ at the moment. In the mobile computing community at least, nearly everyone wants to get hands-on, test, and probably buy one too. Phone Arena have got hold of the Verizon MiFi 2200 and have posted some pics and speed test results. Forget the speed test results because your mileage will vary wildly depending on where you are and who’s sharing the tower with you. Fingers crossed that it’s not someone with another MiFi! It’s rated for EVDO Rev 0 which […]

After a very successful and stress-free install of Windows 7 on the U/B50N (U820, U2010) UMPC yesterday, I’m now giving it a full test as a desktop PC with full size monitor and keyboard. It’s great!

Prediction: The MiFi will be mobile gadget of the year for many many people. With it’s ability to bundle 5 non-3G devices via Wifi over one 3G connection, its tiny size, reasonable battery life, USB charging/use, built-in web server and very easy operation, it really adds a lot of value to the kit bag.

We’ve had plenty of Viliv S5 coverage lately, but jkk got his hands on the yet to be released Viliv S5 Premium Air. The Premium part of the name denotes the SSD drive and the Air part tells you that there is built in 3G. Jkk brings you an unrelenting 25 minute video review of the unit showing many different facets of its operation. Jump on over to his site to check it out. [Chippy: I’m working on finishing my review. Should be done today.]

As I was packing a few UMPCs up today, I realised it would be a good time to take a photo of all the devices that are owned or passing through UMPCPortal right now. It makes a great overview of the form factors and sizes that are available.
