Hanvon TouchPad BC10C Tablet Shows Its Strengths on Video

JKK has some fun with the BC10C. Remember this is based on an Intel Core CPU (1.3Ghz single core Celeron) and GMA 4500 GPU so its in a different class to the Atom based devices. Watch some of the demos in the video and you’ll immediately get a feel for the power of this device.

jkkmobile: Hanvon TouchPad BC10C tablet review.

650eur seems a bit high, but if it has 3g included i might think about it.
    If not maybe the BA10A?!
    Great job JKK!

Way too expensive. I’ll hold out for the HP Slate.

I can’t say I agree with those saying this is too expensive. Everyone saw how this performed, it was excellent. Sure $900 (rounded) seems to be quite expensive but when you look under the hood there’s far more power than any ATOM tablet platform could hope to put out. The only real downfall here I can see is battery life but even that’s manageable.

Everyone seems to follow Intel’s marketing spiel for the Atom where this SoC (System on a Chip) is claimed to give greater battery life at little reduction in performance and achieve the same goals the other mobile processors can for web applications.

The Atom has been around for several generations and so far, without co-processors (if you add more chips to the mix what’s the point of using Atom in the first place) such as the Ion Chipset or the Broadcom Crystal HD or ridiculous clock speeds (2Ghz for a mobile device that still chokes on HD content or multitasking), it still cannot product acceptable performance on basic web tasks such as HD YouTube video playback etc. Furthermore The battery life figures on most Atom based devices are no better (in some cases worse) that similarly equipped ULV devices.

If a ULV device is built properly it can achieve remarkable battery life at no performance compromise (eg Fujitsu ST6012) and as for cost… most Atom based devices are cheaper to product because this is the one area Intel managed to deliver as promised even though the CULV (re-badged ULV from 4 years ago) is still close to matching the Atom’s price.

I think the only thing (aside from ridiculous profits) Intel has achieved with Atom is to get manufacturers that would otherwise not have been able to afford to develop a mobile device to produce something eye-catching.

Other than that, we have not seen many serious sub-USD1000.00 mobile devices since the Atom made its appearance.

I welcome the BC10C and hope this is a sign that the industry has returned to its senses. USD900.00 for a budget slate is a great price when you consider the alternatives are still USD1600+ . If you compare this to the iPad or Atom based slates, you are indeed clueless of what tablets/slates are, this is a real budget slate, the iPad and Atom slates are toys to give to your kids.

I wish it had a better battery. It is very responsive but I think it won’t have more than 3hrs of battery life:(

  9. al says:

very cool, but the price is a bit too high. I’m still very excited. I hope it has a removable battery. If it does, I’m pretty much sold. an option for a 16-32gb ssd drive would be nice as well.
I wish HP would hurry up and get the their slate out.

Thanks jkk for the quick review!

If they can put an Intel CULV CPU in a 10 inch tablet then they can put it in a 10 inch notebook. I’d like something like that released in the US.

  11. jay says:

I’d like a 10 inch CULV notebook also. Currently, for me, touch interfaces can’t beat a nice keyboard and mouse. Not even close.

it’s the same price as that feminine produced IPAD with 3G & 64gb hd but it does way more
    like FLASH!!!!!
    ooooh ya 320GB HARD DRIVE!!!!

Nice review JKK, could you post a video of the tablet running Windows Media Center, how it handles music (with the picture wall), Videos, Pictures, etc…

Thank you and keep it up!

Good review and the BC10C is a nice device. I like it comes with Windows 7. For more battery life time I would trade the HHD to a SSD. Hopefully a good role model for others the come with a full functioning Windows 7, light tablet, and long battery life time.

Does it come with a stylus or would it make sense to use a stylus for annotation? I would like to crop, read, annotate PDF ebooks with PDF xchange viewer.
