The Widescreen, very widescreen U840/U845 pretty much stole the show today in terms of Computex / Ultrabook news. It’s a striking departure from normal form screen aspect ratios and brings up some interesting usage scenarios. Toshiba have included high-end speakers by Harman / Kardon but there’s no discreet graphics, only HD 4000 which should be fine considering it can handle multiple 4K streams.

A backlit keyboard and choice of 256GB SSD or 500GB hybrid HDD tops off the specs. Check your local retailer for specific model specifications before you buy.

The Z930/Z935 is a little easier to explain. Take the Z830 and upgrade the CPU. We’ve been told that engineers have worked on the hinge, that the SSD is faster and that there is a 1600×900 screen. However, it looke like some of these features may not appear in all versions. For example, there’s a chance that the entry level models will still have the 1600×900 screen. We’ve been told that the $928.99 model in the US my even have a Core i3 and 128GB! We’ll have to wait for EANs and model numbers before we can really get to grips with the finer detail of the specs. At the very least, an Ivy Bridge upgrade is welcome. Toshiba has also highlighted a feature called ‘sleep ‘n music’ on the Z930/935 which allows you to use the laptop as powered speakers while in sleep mode.

Due to the uncertainty on the specs here we’ll direct you to Z930 in the database where you’ll always see the latest information.

You can see all the latest links for these devices in the database. We’ve added hands-on from computex too. Just click on each section header for more information.
