Samsung Series 7 (3)

The Samsung Series 7 Ultra isn’t an Ultrabook convertible which means it’s not getting the best of media attention right now but please, take a closer look because the specs are spot-on for many of you that could be looking for a ‘pro’ Ultrabook. Full HD, Discreet graphics, full SSD and a touch option. In out opinion this could be one of the best Ultrabooks yet. It’s available for pre-order now in Germany so here’s the detail, pricing and an idea of availability. I will be checking this out at CeBIT in about 4 weeks.

Samsung Series 7 (2)2 model ranges have surfaced in online retail channels in Germany.

NP 730U3E – Core i3-3337U, 6GB RAM, 128GB SSD. 1920×1080, Radeon HD 8550M 128/256GB SSD, No Touch, Price: 999 Euro. Expected March (according to most sources.)

German readers: (Amazon.de offering Core i5, 4GB version for 799 today. This price looks too good to be true.)

NP 740U3E –  Core i5-3537U, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 8, Radeon HD 8550M 128/256GB SSD, Touchscreen.

A Core i7 touchscreen version with 6GB RAM and 256GB SSD is showing at 1399 Euro.

(Prices inclusive 19% sales tax)

Official specs indicate 30 mins less battery life for the touchscreen version. (7.3hrs official for touchscreen version.) All models have Centrino WiFi, back-lit keyboard, WiDi, 1.46KG weight.

Obviously there’s going to be variation in different countries but the base specs look great. The only thing we can’t confirm right now is the battery capacity. At 1.5 KG it could house the same battery unit as the Series 5 which would make it 45Wh. We hope it’s more than that. Fingers crossed for 60Wh which would be the icing on the cake in our opinion.

These look great — also great offer on Amazon.de i feel tempted to order the 799 offer maybe for a Family memember .. i bought my Samsung series 9 with 128 ssd 13 Inch last summer and i am happy with it .. but to see now their series 7 models outperform mine with full hd 256 ssd another graphic Card ect. i feel a bit cheated whats going on lol

  2. Robert says:

how well does the AMD HD 8550M compare to the intel hd graphics 4000 .. and how is the weight of These 13 Inch series 7 gonna compare to the 13 Inch Samsung series 9 ? will the 13 Inch 7 be a 1.5 kg deal? or more equal to 1.2 kg?

  3. Steve Chippy Paine says:

1.5KG Robert. I think more important is how much battery will we get for the weight!

  4. Adam says:

Agree 100%. What kind of battery life are we talking about? (Although the summer Haswell version will annihilate this thing’s battery life either way.)

I am hoping that the i7 version comes to the UK as this is definitely the top of my list.

I could care less about the tablet gimmick that is sweeping the nation. This is the laptop for me!

I totally agree haha :) also so many journalists and writers say ” that begs the question wether…” when they actually mean this makes one wonder if .. ect. when begging the question means something totally different .. ok it felt good to vent about some of my pet peeves … but i am sure a site didicated to ultrabooks couldnt care less ;)

  9. Steve Chippy Paine says:

Haha. I had no idea (or should I say I could have less of an idea?) that one could embed videos in comments. As i’m a fan of Mitchell, it’s staying.

  10. Flo says:

    Oooh :(
It doesn’t ship outside of Germany!
    I want one too :p

  11. V-man says:

It says that the battery has 57 Wh on Amazon and Otto.de… could be a great machine.

  12. Steve Chippy Paine says:

Hey thanks for the update. That’s great news V-man.

  13. Skaertus says:

Looks good. However, I am still waiting for the 2560×1440 Series 9 (the one Samsung showcased last August) to be released.

  14. cherry says:

does it come with a stylus? one that actually writes and not just point?
I am doing a lot of drawing on my current fujitzu which is great and has served me well for the past 2yrs but it is dying on me and i am having a hard time to decide which lap top to replace .
the Taichi is not an option > the touch screen is on the outside so i will not be able to drawing and type , the sony vio 11 is not good because it only allows you to write and draw at a fixed angle.
the Lenovo x220 is very very heavy at 2KG + and i did not get a chance to try it out
i really like writing on the screen, any suggetions?

  15. Steve Chippy Paine says:

This won’t have a digitizer layer for a pen but I see what you’re looking for. Drawing and typing. An interesting combination that I had not considered before now. Do you keep the pen in the hand while typing? I can’t imagine too many people in this scenario.

  16. Tsais says:

For a “Pro” laptop, we’d need a few more things:

Does it have a backlit keyboard?
    IPS / LPS display tech?
    Internal 3G option?

Resolution would be key to know as well.
I’d be ok with just 1600×900 on a 13″ lappy, but 1366×768 would be a big thanks, but NO thanks…

  17. JF_UK says:

Given that other manufactures have not; I bet the i7 version is not released in the UK..
