New Driver for Intel HD Graphics 4000+ Iris 5100, and Iris Pro 5200

As part of their regular improvements to drivers, Intel has released a new HD Graphics driver that applies to all Ivy Bridge and Haswell Ultrabooks. The new driver fixes a number of bugs and enhances game and program compatibility.

We’re expecting about 20% graphics performance improvement on the Intel Iris graphics (e.g. Zenbook Infinity) over the HD 5000 graphics seen in some Ultrabooks but what if that isn’t enough for you? The Cyberpower Zeuss Hercules offers Intel Iris Pro graphics (HD 5200) with a full-HD display in a 1.9KG package. It looks very Ultrabook-like but could have the grunt to take it into high quality gaming territory. Students, take note!

We saw the ASUS Infinity launch, behind perspex, at Computex. It appeared last week at IFA but it wasn’t until today that I got some hands-on time with it. It’s a beautiful design, light and has the unique feature of an Intel Iris HD 5100 GPU.

If you’re looking for a solid business-focused 12.5-inch Ultrabook, there’s only one choice. The Lenovo X240 comes in the usual wide range of screen resolutions, CPU’s, memory and batteries but the KVM experience, that’s the keyboard, video and mouse, are superb on all versions. I had some hands-on time at IDF this week.

When we think about 2-in-1  tablet and ‘laptop’ designs we have two platforms available. Haswell Y-Series is for high-end Ultrabook-class devices and from today, Baytrail-M Celeron and Pentium-branded platforms. Baytrail is for entry level low power devices running Android and Windows 8.

Update: Full Dell Venue 8 Pro Specifications now in the database (and we’re adding more content as we find it.) I’ve managed to get a video close-up of the Dell Venue Window 8, 8-inch tablet. Watch the video and you’ll here the product manager give some new information. I had hands-on too and it feels absolutely great, a real quality tablet. 400gm in weight is amazing.
