“Acer W4 disc speed is significantly faster than DV8P”.

Don’t ALL of the other 8″ tablets have faster sequential disc read speed than the DV8P? You need to rerun your DV8P disc tests… others are getting better DV8P than you are.

Thanks. I’ll do some further checks.

My recorded data for the DVP8… https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=4D7AABF556825522!6723&authkey=!AOxOHg2hiS9-FMM&ithint=folder,.PNG

I think the faster DVP8 disk speeds people are getting is due to enabling HS200 support for the eMMC in the BIOS. People are also enabling DDR50 for the SD card reader to get faster speeds.

When those are enabled, people are getting ~135 MB/s seq. read and ~55 seq. write and just over 10 MB/s random 4KB read/writes.

Of course, it would be nice to know why disables these newer faster protocols on their tablet by default. Did they discover issues or is it just an oversight.

Looking forward to your Acer W4 review. I was wondering if you could touch upon a few things. When I had the Toshiba Encore for a little while, the micro HDMI output did not mirror the desktop. Rather, it was a desktop extension. Could you state if the Acer W4 micro HDMI port mirrors or extends the desktop? Other review available spoke of two problems: battery drain on standby mode (1% per hour) and bluetooth connectivity problems that seem to affect the graphics rendering. Thanks for the overview and impending review.

  7. Chippy says:

Interesting. I think i’ve had this working on the WT8. will check.

  8. Chippy says:

Both W4 and WT8 do not allow mirroring. Interesting.. Thanks for the pointer.

  9. Damir says:

the battery draon in standby is definitely way less than 1%/h, mine was more like 1%/8h, it´s almost unbelieavble how good standby time is on windows tablets

  10. D Yen says:

Thanks for the info. Maybe the other person has a bad device.

  11. acerw4 says:

“Also, a new firmware update came out that resolves the issue with hdmi not supporting mirror mode.
Now, the mirror mode works, but it only outputs screen at the same resolution as the actual device…(which is 1200x 800…)
    that’s reasonable, I suppose..

    Firmware update = allow mirroring

  12. Chippy says:

Thanks for that info. I’m checking for updates now…

  13. Chippy says:

No update available through the Live Updater.

  14. D Yen says:

That would be a bummer if it couldn’t mirror. It was one of the reasons why I didn’t keep the Toshiba Encore. I saw a video using Plugable dock solution with a Dell Venue 8 Pro and they were able to get full screen resolution for the multiple monitors. Now it went through the micro USB port which might be the reason for full screen resolution. Why couldn’t an HDMI cable also output to the resolution of the external monitor?

OK, I didn’t watch it live as I had other chores but did watch the recorded version this evening.
