Sony Vaio Duo 13 (Haswell) vs. Asus UX31E (Sandybridge) Sleep and Wake Comparison [video]

sony vaio duo 13 (haswell) vs asus ux31e (sandybridge) sleep and wake comparison

Today I’m pitting the Sony Vaio Duo 13 (third-gen Haswell Ultrabook) against the Asus UX31E (first-gen Sandybridge Ultrabook) in sleep and wake times. One of Intel’s goals for the Ultrabook platform was to eventually reach a point of instant-on, just like a tablet or smartphone, with Haswell, they’ve finally done it.

Asus Teases ‘We Transform’ for Computex 2013 — Expect Haswell Designs

asus computex 2013 teaser

Asus loves their teaser videos. Last week they put out a teaser about their forthcoming appearance at the annual Computex conference in Taipei, Taiwan. There’s not much to go on except for their slogan ‘We Transform’. With their commitment to convertible designs over the last year, we expect to see more of the same (a good thing). This time around, expect thinner and lighter devices with better battery life thanks to Intel’s forthcoming Haswell processors.

Asus UX51VZ with 2880×1620 Display; Asus Quietly Joins the Retina Club with an Ultrabook Alternative

asus ux51vz retina display

Back in June of 2012, Apple revealed their MacBook Pro with ‘retina’ display — a super high resolution panel. Since then we haven’t an answer in the Ultrabook or Ultrabook-alternative world by anything higher than 1920×1080 (likely due to Windows’ poor scaling support). It looks like Asus will be the first to make a comparable offering. A new variant of the UX51 popped up quietly on Amazon.de sporting a 15.6 inch 2880 x 1620 panel.

Hands-on with the AsusPro BU400V, the Business Ultrabook That You Can Jump On

asus bu400v business ultrabook footprint

As with many of its recent notebooks, Asus announced the Bu400 business Ultrabook several months ago — though it’s only just starting to near market availability. At CeBIT, Chippy got his hands on the Bu400V, the Core i7 model with discrete Nvidia GPU. The BU400 has a great port set and is a bit more square than the Zenbook series; I think it looks great — very professional and definitely suited for the boardroom. The BU400 has a big battery and is built for extra durability to survive against drops, spills, and apparently feet.

Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A Touch Now Available in Jet Black, 1080p IPS Display

Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A Touch Radiant Black

The Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A recently hit the market and interestingly stands out from the rest of the Zenbook crowd with a jet black aluminum color. Ever since Asus fired up their UX Ultrabook series, the devices have been styled in silver and grey. Not only is it a looker, but it’s also a solid deal at $1099 for a 1080p display and 128GB SSD.

Asus Transformer Book Still MIA 9 Months Later

ASUS-Transformer-Book-1.jpg

Back in June of 2012 Asus unveiled the Transformer Book, a (at the time) unique Ivy Bridge Ultrabook convertible with dockable keyboard. The Transformer Book created quite a bit of excitement and interest as a device that could function as both a tablet and a powerful Ultrabook laptop. We knew we’d have to wait until the launch of Windows 8 before the unit came to market. But when that date, October 2012, came and passed, we started to worry about the Transformer Book. Now, 9 months after its original announcement, we’re wondering if the mythical Ultrabook convertible will ever make it to market.
