We’ve just added the ASUS VivoBook S400 to the database (The 84th Ultrabook) and I note that it’s already quite the popular product. At around $700 for a touchscreen 14.1”-er, it’s not too surprising although for that price you’re not getting best-of-specs!

1366×768 resolution is almost a budget laptop specification and the hybrid hard drive won’t be as fast as an SSD. The weight is not exactly class-leading either but you do get a free RAM slot inside. We’re still trying to track down information on the battery capacity for you.
Given the current spec list and ASUS’ reputation this could be a really great entry point into some Touch Windows 8 productivity and fun.

…and it’s not cheap!
Update: It’s not light either. See product page for size and weight info.
As we watched this ASUS Transformer Book video from Liliputing yesterday, we heard some talk about a price and immediately started to write an article while simultaneously contacting Brad Linder at Liliputing for confirmation. He couldn’t give it. Apparently the voice was from another conversation and as there were other devices on the table he couldn’t confirm. We have new information now though.

The good news is that the Transformer Book is going to available in Italy from December. The bad news is that the price is going to be…

Asus is launching new Zenbooks apparently in the hopes of appealing to everyone. What once consisted of only Ultrabooks now features six devices, one of which is not an Ultrabook. Most recently Asus has announced the UX42 and UX52. It looks like the company is keeping somewhat reasonable conventions though, devices prefixed with ‘UX’ all seem to be Ultrabooks while the lone ‘U’ device is a non-Ultrabook (even if it is still relatively thin and light).

For those trying to keep up with the changing rumors, cross-border PR and trade show differences and developing ecosystem, tracking ASUS over the last three months has been a nightmare. At an event yesterday though, ASUS revealed their final line-up of Windows 8 tablets, dockables, flipables and Ultrabooks. At least for the USA! One surprise in that event was a second CloverTrail based ASUS Vivo Tab. The ASUS Viv Tab Smart.

ASUS doesn’t appear to have revealed much online about the Transformer Book this evening as their events take place in London and New York but there’s enough so far to confirm it’s coming and to fill out some of the specs. A 13.3” 1080P IPS display, CPU options up to Core i7 and there’s a 128GB SSD in the tablet. Up to 500GB hard drive sits in the keyboard dock. More specs below…

Asus U500 details thus far revealed have been added to our database. There seems to be some confusion about whether or not the U500 is an Ultrabook. If the specs we’re seeing are accurate — a quad-core i7 ‘QM’ processor — it is definitely not an Ultrabook. However there seems to be quite a bit of confusion regarding that fact.

Asus has prepared a full device assault to coincide with the launch of Windows 8. Tomorrow at 2PM EST the company will be unveiling their Windows 8 lineup at their Windows 8 touch teaser site. Though Asus is trying to tease the identity of the lineup (see icons below with no names) a quick look into the website source reveals the names of these devices: TaiChi, Transformer Book, Zenbook Touch, Vivo Book, and Vivo Tab (not that we couldn’t have guessed before!) [there’s also an AIO touchscreen desktop but that doesn’t really concern us!].
