MeeGo Roadmap Released.

I’ve been following the first MeeGo Technical Steering Group Meeting this evening and updating my little journal (mainly a personal notes area) over at MeeGoNews.com

For those that don’t know about MeeGo, it’s the result of an agreement between Nokia and Intel to merge their two open-source mobile-focused Linux operating systems (Maemo and Moblin) into one. MeeGo is focused on the Handheld, Netbook, Car and TV experiences so fits in well here. It’s also got two applications stores Ovi and AppUp, ready to be ported over; an important step in the race to attract developers. Covering a range of devices from handheld all the way up through Netbooks to TVs and Cars gives it a much wider scope than Google Android right now.

I’ll be keeping the journal updated with news as I get it (as an ‘Intel Insider’ I get a good chance to connect with the teams in the US and Europe and drill down for new information) so check back regularly.

In the meeting tonight we heard about the roadmap, some information about supported platforms and the news that the first code will be released next week. It won’t be a full release but there should be support for the Nokia N900 using a handheld UI, and support for netbooks using the Moblin 2.1 UI. See my notes for more info on the roadmap and other items that came up in the meeting.
