Willcom D4 unboxing, pics.

The Willcom D4 and Kohjinsha SC3 devices, the first to run on the Intel MID platform (Menlow) are reaching peoples hands through importers now and I’m happy to be one of them. I have an SC3 sitting behind me, still sealed up, that i’ll take a closer look at later. If you’re tracking the Willcom device though, and many are due to its tiny size and Windows OS, you’ll want to check out this unboxing from Wow-Pow. There’s no real hands-on yet and no word from them on battery life, a critical element on this device, but Wow-Pow have promised to bring a more hands-on focused video later.

Don’t forget to check out the opinions from Direct From Japan and keep an eye on Pocketables who are also expecting the device.

Details specs and up-to-date links are always available in the Willcom D4 info page.

I’m looking forward to this piece of perfection.

PS – Please try playing a strategy game on this touchscreen umpc! (e.g. Generals Zero Hour)

This is a MID, but with that most useful extra bit of ability, voice phone calls. This is what I have been waiting for. Shame it’s no use in the UK yet. Ah well, waiting for something similiar here!

I’m wondering how hot this unit gets? I’ve heard that the 1.33Ghz Atom in the Kohjinsha SC3 gets unusually hot; something I wouldn’t have expected with the tiny Silverthorne/Poulsbo combo.

Does the D4 give out the same heat. Could it be caused by a fan-less design?

  5. Brett says:

it’s not fanless, but it seems a little cooler than the SC3 .

(we only had the D4 for a day, so extended tests weren’t possible, I believe Steve will have a review unit coming to him very soon?)
