Its time to raise the flag and say ‘help’ here at UMPCPortal and Carrypad. We’re asking for donations (and offering services in return.)

We’re a independent website provider focused on mobile computing and survive purely through advertising and the support of our readers. We resist the temptation to add roadblock ads, overlay ads, pop-ups, affiliate links in articles, ‘deal of the day’ and text-link-ads and we direct-sell our ad space to chosen partners on preferential terms. We also try to provide unique content, detailed reports and in-depth coverage rather than just news blogging. Our job is to promote mobile computing, for the customer, manufacturer and reseller in an honest, open and professional way.

donate-button A few years ago many of you kindly donated to support an IDF event. You donated, I attended and reported. This time I’m offering my knowledge in return for donations. I’ve been 100% full-time focused on mobile computing during the last 4.5 years and want to give you a chance to have direct access to that knowledge so I’ve created a nice package for anyone that donates during Oct 2010. The money will go towards improving the product database (now over 600 products) and a new forum setup that we’ll try to get running before Christmas. It will also go towards running the podcast and Open Review sessions that are unsponsored and have been so popular that we want to improve them and grow them further.

Update: Two Open Review sessions planned for next week. Tega V2 and Galaxy Tab. Please support these efforts!

All donations get an optional ‘thank you’ link on the UMPCPortal front page. (Page Rank 6, latest 20 shown)

Free FULL RSS feed and ebook.Donate Now

Donate €5 or more and I’ll send you a URL to a year-long private RSS feed with full posts and no advertising. If you wish, you can have a daily email post instead. You’ll also get the 2008 Ultra Mobile Guide as a PDF and if you donate in October you’ll get a free copy of the 2010 Mobile Computing Guide ebook (which won’t be free to others) when it gets released later this year.

Product Advice. (Only for donations in October) Donate Now Advice available from 25th October

The perfect way to get expert buying advise for the holiday season. Donate €15 or more in October and you’ll get the RSS feed, the ebook offer and I’ll also provide you with a priority email address that you can use to send your device shortlist and requirements to. I’ll then analyze your product choices and send you a link to a ‘chooser’ page similar to this. The ratings on that page will be based on our knowledge (the public page uses public input and doesn’t include all products.) If you send a few requirements notes (e.g. I’m looking for a device for traveling, gaming etc.) then I’ll also return some notes about your choices. If you want to donate in October and receive a ‘get mobile device advice for free’ card for later use, that’s also fine. We’ll sort that out via email.

Thanks in advance for your support of Carrypad and UMPCPortal, the independent mobile computing websites.

instead of buying all that e-crap and doing that useless travelling-around-the-world, you should get your hair cut and then look for regular work, like all of us do! ;)
btw. i understood, that intel is paying well for your opinion! that isn´t enough?!

Steve unfortunately, you got the same troll. He was pretty active on Netbooknews.de (he is german)too but gave up after i installed a new comment system. I think we just have to deal with these little wankers and to be honest, sometimes i am getting a boner just by thinking of how jealous he is ;)

  7. tsetse says:

    love you too, pal!
at least you´re not begging for help while living the live the jealous-one wants to live! that´s a shame, isn´t it.
and look at the nice house the “chippy” is living in; don´t you feel like giving him all your hard earned money, so he can buy a bigger one? i do and i donated!

Donate to get more services? I thought donation would be an optional thing. I just wonder why you don’t just use more direct word for paid service.

    Well, it’s just my 2 cents =)

ps. I just tried ‘chooser’ page. It’s very hard not to buy HP Mini 5102 as far as rating goes. I, however, don’t know if it’s convincing to me. I know it’s tough trying calculate these subjective attributes to number. For example, it might be better using #-hour battery life than ambiguous low/med/high rate for battery life or you can just do like rating 10 for 10-hour+ under heavy load, rating 1 for 2 hours or less, and so on.

Yes. Full RSS is a new paid service. (Full RSS has been unavailable for many many months) Everything else is free.
