Prepare for a bumpy ride in the MID/Smartphone space. A confusing one too because according to DigiTimes, one of the most successful smartphone designers is getting ready to launch Snapdragon-based phones. The target for launch is Q2 of 2009, later than the planned Toshiba TG01 which is also running Snapdragon.
The leaked roadmap from last month show’s two devices that would fit well with the Characteristics of the snapdragon platform.

Also in the brief article, Digitimes states that HTC are designing with Atom. This is similar to news we had 10 months ago and could be anything from a phone to a next-gen HTC Shift.

This is what I like. I use HTC devices since 2004 and an Snapdragon upgrade of Advantage would be really nice (I love my 1st gen Advantage but more multimedia power and better resolution screen would be nice).
What would be even more awesome would be Atom/Snapdragon device similar to Shift but with more functional Windows Mobile part and Win7 instead of Vista in smaller package. Hey maybe even in Advantage form factor – I like the fact that you have a slate device but there is also a keyboard you can attach if needed.

Its unknown what the details of the platforms in use are, the devices that are on the roadmap and how these devices might use each platform.

HTC devices look good, but they don’t seem to perform to the necessary standard especially when it comes to video playback. The word on the Touch HD, their beautiful phone, is that video performance is pretty poor. This seems to follow a tradition of similar problems with earlier products, like the Advantage, another awesome looking device that performed badly on video, and various of their cell phone offerings that did not have proper graphics drivers.
I used to look to HTC for the future of cool large screened mobile devices, but I’m getting pretty close to giving up on the altogether.
im supprised its taken so long to get to this stage , the first company who can make a pocket pc that is powerful has great video performance and a large screen will get a huge market. ? I know it takes a long time to develope, but an atom based ppc will rock the market. the future is a hand held device with power, not something you have to carry in a bag. HTC and Toshiba are getting close
I tried to buy HTC shares but its impossible to buy from australia, what kind of company makes it so hard to buy there shares? dont they need money for development ? get with it HTC
i have tired to buy HTC shares for 2 weeks , every email was unanswered , technical support are in philipines and they have no clue , tried calling them in taiwan , they dont speak enblish, called every stock brocker in sydney to see if they Have access to taiwan market. Dead ends , as you said , its impossible
I even asked web suporrt team to guide me in the right direction and they just post a link to the investor secton of the htc site which dosent have any clue of how to buy the shares , its pathetic
