UMPCFever are the source of the information here and I find myself more than a little interested in this 1.6Ghz Intel Centrino Atom-based (Silverthorne + Puolsbo) device having read the article. The Fujitsu U2010 appears to be a significant step forward for UMPCs and a possible replacement for my broken Q1 Ultra (more about that here and later.)

UMPCFever have measured 3 hours WiFi-on, full screen backlight playing a movie. Remember this is on a 20wh battery. 7W drain under those conditions is nothing short of impressive. Expect around 7-hours music playback, 5 hours wifi-off typing or 3 hours browsing. If you so wish, you have a 40wh battery option which will bulk the device out a little but double your battery life.
The U2010 has many of the components of the SC3 but it’s smaller (click the size comparison on the left,) is more powerful and has better battery life. In my book, that’s worth paying for so it’s the reason that the U2010 has gone right to the top of my wishlist. Anyone want to buy an SC3 from me?

The U810 has a wifi/bt hardware switch as well, are you saying something has changed about it?
What I’d really like to know is if they replaced the shoddy/slow cf/sd readers with something that’s usable.

The U2010 does look interesting, but I am still thinking of the SC3 because of the 7″ screen (min for me). Actually, I really liked the look of the Fujitsu P1620, but it’s just too expensive for a UMPC, I think…
Anyway, quick question – I noticed that Jenn at Pocketables commented that Vista was ‘zippy’ on the SC3 and that Firefox started pretty much immediately. But I noticed a comment from you somewhere that your SC3 took a few seconds to start Firefox.
Could this apparent discrepency be down to the fact that you are running Vista Ultimate rather than Vista Home Premium?
I am guessing that they do in fact run at the same speed, but I just want to triple check that Vista Ultimate does not have additional Vista bloat that will slow the thing right down [Vista has enough bloat as it is!] :-)

Ref 7″ screen. Thats how i feel too. Using the wibrain today makes me realise how important the 7″ screen is.Its the only screen size that can truely go from two_handed to tabletop use. The 2010 has fallen from the top of my list.
Ref vista on the sc3. On my build. the os is installed on the second partition and it appears that this is the reaon my disk speeds are slower. This might be accounting for some slowing but its still very slow. Maybe im really noticing the huge difference between XP on a fast ssd (q1ultra) and vista on a standard drive.

I have noticed a couple of posts from people who have installed XP on the SC3 – one stated that XP was noticeably faster, but the other gave the impression that the difference wasn’t that great.
However, one thing is clear from all XP install attempts on the SC3 so far – it a bit of a botch without official Kohjinsha drivers!
So, I’ll probably end up getting the SC3 with Vista and then downgrading to XP as soon as the drivers are out, and someone has done a proper (official driver) install and can confirm extra ‘zippiness’!
But, still gonna have to buy an extended battery for the SC3 and some extra RAM. Still, at least the standard battery is not 1.5 hrs (D4), and at least it is possible to add extra memory (unlike the U2010 – what were Fujitsu thinking?)…

Definitely wait for the drivers to improve.
Overall, the UI experience and the loading up for GUI-based apps was faster under XP (although to be honest its not so amazing that you must have it).
3D app support is so poor with the drivers right now that it didn’t mater what OS (Vista or XP), you’re not going to get amazing performance. I also blue screened on just about everything 3D I’ve run (in both OSes and after switching out memory, etc). So the drivers are definitely in the “Beta” category.
For now, I’ve gone back to Vista due to the less then stellar differences. Vista just has a nicer look and the graphics drivers are further along then under XP.
I’m went back to Vista as well.
Playing 720p movies works better on XP and it is a lot quicker by default though.
However after tweaking Vista and especially after disabling file indexing it performs much better.
Perhaps we can “steal” the Fujitsu drivers and improve battery life, 7″ is an absolute minimum for me anyway and I like the SC3 more and more…
The reviewer at UMPC Fever mistakenly thinks the U810 is without a Wifi/BT switch, so pointed out that the U2010 adds one.
I have a U810 and while I would like the U2010, the non-upgradeable memory kills it for me. I am waiting to see how the extended battery for the SC3 looks and performs.

Completely agree, without 2 gigs of ram I’m not interested in it.. pity it looks really promising otherwise!
The U810 is $999 at my local store and can be get for $800-$900 when on sale after rebate. I think the U2010 should be similarly priced. I almost bought a U810, but I could not find a way to change the screen to 1024×800 (virtual).
But the deal break is the mouse buttons at the left side. I cannot use the mouse with one hand, which is very necessary when use a PC in bed. The OQO 02 has the same problem but I made a program to use the numerical keys for mouse buttons and page up/dn etc., now fully one-hand operational. For a UMPC, one hand operation is a must, because I’ve found my self using it mostly in bed. Two-hands up is a pain, not a relaxed browsing.
Now EEE PC 901 and the alike can be had for 1/2-1/3 the price, why still buy the U2010?
For me, the 901 is not ultra mobile. 600gms vs 1.1kg is a big difference in many scenarios. However, I can understand why you might be considering the 901.

Correction: the mouse pointer acts as left button, plus the screen is now 1280×800. So this U2010 is as perfect as it could be. If the Fn key between the PgUp and PgDn can be hacked to be right button or context key, then it is the perfect UMPC ever. Hopefully I’ll see a U820 in my local store soon.
This seems to be so far the lightest and smallest PC that does not compromise performance (1.6GHz Intel Atom), productivity (1280 and touch type-able) and battery life (actual 3 hr).
I would actually say “perfect” would be 2-4gb of RAM and HDMI on the dock. 1gb isn’t cutting it, and VGA is so 1995.
Oh, and while I’m wishing for things I won’t get: full BR-D acceleration with advanced audio codecs. :)
I donn’t know why they have moved to usb port. a usb port should be on the right so more people may use a mouse if they choose to do so, never on the left.
I just use a BT mouse with mine.
I have the u810 am am trying to find a U2010. I’m in the US and so far I have heard that it’s available in Hong Kong to students or something like that. I see an ad on ebay buy it’s for a gold or red/pink one. I am looking for the black colored one. Anyone know where I could get one?
I just found where the FCC released some info that the U2010 is on it’s way to the USA and confirmed it will be released as the U820.
