Acer has 4.8 inch, 7 inch and 10 inch Android Tablets planned for April 2011

Posted on 23 November 2010

Acer announced a set of Android tablets this afternoon that are sure to make people pause before they put an order in for the holiday season. The 7 inch Tablet looks like a belter and you can be sure that Acer will compete heavily on price. The 7 inch model on the left (neither model has a name yet) will come with a dual-core 1.2Ghz Snapdragon CPU,  1280×800 resolution screen, 3G, Wi-FI  and we hear, Android 2.2 with Flash 10.1. With front and rear cameras it looks like it will […]

Notion Ink Launches New Site in Preparation of Adam Tablet Launch

Posted on 23 November 2010

We’ve been watching the Notion Ink Adam [tracking page] carefully ever since it’s early beginnings. Now, Notion Ink has launched a new website in preparation of the launch of their first device, expected in either December or January. Their previous site was very flashy, both metaphorically and literally. The flash based aspects of it really hurt the performance of the site. This time around, the site is much more refined, and performs much better. I’m hoping that this parallels what’s been happening with the device itself. It’s important to expectations […]

Toshiba AC100 Still Broken – 3 Months After Launch.

Posted on 22 November 2010

About 3 months ago I bought a Toshiba AC100 ‘smart’ book for testing. While I didn’t believe it would provide me with a netbook experience I was very interested in continuing my testing with ‘always on’ ARM-based devices. Unfortunately, that ‘always on’ experience highlighted in marketing and videos, has still not been delivered 3 months later. It’s time Toshiba actually stood up, removed the false claims, started apologizing to customers and fixing this broken device. More importantly, potential owners need to keep fingers off until we can confirm the problem […]

Antix Gaming Running on MeeGo

Posted on 22 November 2010

Although I didn’t know this at the time, it turns out that Antix is quite the multi-OS gaming platform. It’s a solution that allows purchase, play, sharing and trial of games between people and different devices running different OS’ (More here.) At the MeeGo conference last week I caught up with Costas Stylianou of Intel’s AppUp team who was demonstrating a multiplayer game. While the game demo might be interesting, I think it’s more interesting to see Intel demonstrating a gaming platform thats is being ported to AppUp. The demo […]

XPPhone Now Available WorldWide

Posted on 22 November 2010

The last time I met ITG was at Computex back in July. The XPPhone was actually shipping in limited quantities then but  it seems that it’s now availble worldwide. Remember the XPPhone is running windows XP Embedded so this isn’t your average desktop OS. There’s also a rather old AMD Geode inside (they call it ‘Super Mobile CPU’ – we know it as Geode LX800 or LX900 as seen in the original Everun) so don’t expect desktop performance either but, as always with UMPCs, they’re aiming at a specific type […]

Apple Mac Book Air, Toshiba AC100 and Samsung N350 in Size Comparison

Posted on 22 November 2010

One of them costs €299, one of them costs €360 and the other, €999. All of them weigh between 867gm and 1060gm. One runs on ARM/Android, one runs on Windows/Intel Atom and the other runs OSX/Intel Core 2 Duo. All are ‘instant’ on. At the MeeGo conference last week I had the chance to check out the Apple Mac Book Air. I had the lightest Intel Netbook (Samsung N350) and lightest ‘smart’ book (Toshiba AC100) with me at the time. I knew the Apple Mac Book Air (11.6 inch) was […]
