Ericsson putting more pressure on Intel’s MID Bid.

image If I were the program manager for Intel’s Menlow platform, I’d probably be taking a three week holiday right now. ARM were flexing muscles yesterday, MWC is nearly open and now Ericsson is wading into the stream.

Ericsson today announced the U380 mobile platform, delivering a true mobile Internet experience and empowering consumers with advanced multimedia features.

Using the ARM Cortex-based, Texas Instruments 3430 that I tipped a few days ago, they’ve developed a one-chip HSPA platform. That’s a CPU, graphics and multimedia processor, controllers and HSPA radios on one chip. Wow!

…capable of supporting all major third-party operating systems on the market. It offers world class multimedia performance with support for up to 12 Mega pixel camera, camcorder, Mobile TV (MBMS, DVB-H, ISDB-T, Unicast), and advanced 3D graphics. Connectivity solutions include WLAN 802.11, Bluetooth 2.1 and high speed USB.  The U380 has a quad-band WCDMA radio with 7.2Mbps HSDPA broadband capabilities, a world class security solution as well as highly optimized power consumption.

A Worry for Intel? Not right now as it’s going to give them something to aim for with Moorestown. The U380 platform won’t be available until the first half of 2009.
