Hot and Not. Keywords in Mobile Computing.

Posted on 21 August 2009

Keyword watching is a fun game that I play every now and again to make myself really happy that the ultra mobile PC keyword is getting news and coverage from all angles!!!  This morning I’ve been researching important keywords in the mobile computing sector and trying to come up with a list of what’s hot. Here’s my list based mostly on Google Trends analysis. Android. Android appears to be one of the fastest growing keywords in the mobile computing segment. Query levels are as high as the term ‘Windows Mobile’ […]

Touchbook Owner Talks about Build Quality Issues.

Posted on 20 August 2009

SteveNYC, a member of the forums here, received his Always Innovating Touchbook yesterday. He’s put some words and pics up via Twitter already but we’ve been in touch and he’s been kind enough to share some of his initial thoughts about the device. Steve owns a range of mobile devices so he knows what he’s looking for in a product. [All photos from SteveNYC] To cut straight to the chase, Steve isn’t that happy with the device and has sent us a list of things he’s not happy about. The […]

N900 Outed in Proto Expose.

Posted on 19 August 2009

Amazing. The Mobile-Review team out in Russia have had a prototype N900 for a while and because of the leaked information they have seen on it they have chosen to air some initial thoughts including device images and a ton of images about the OS. There’s a lot to analyse here. It’s a phone. It’s running Maemo 5. It’s looking like Nokia really is moving to Maemo as their high-end OS. I’m quite stunned that Maemo has come this far. Hats off to Nokia. I’m going to try and get […]

Archos: Sept 15th Android Tablet Event.

Posted on 19 August 2009

Tablet news is on a real high this month and the latest information to hit us is something I had almost forgotten about. The Archos Android Tablet. Archos have announced an event for Sept 15th which is just days after a planned Apple event. Pocketables have a good round-up of the announcement and information on a new app-store. Appslib. Information in AppsLib implies that we’re talking about a 5″ tablet based on the Archos 5. Not a bad thing at all given the Ti OMAP 3 underpinnings. What worries me […]

Black UMID comes to Dynamism

Posted on 19 August 2009

After a long wait and more than a little worry that UMID had gone out of business, the black Mbook M1, one of the most impressive of all the UMPCs based on it’s size, performance, speed and capability, is coming to Dynamism next week for $599. Dynamism are also offering a free leather case (while stocks last) The UMID runs XP on the same  1.3Ghz Intel Atom CPU asyou’ll find in the Viliv X5, X70 and Asus T91. It’s a proven CPU now and ideal for high-end mobile work with […]

Why I’d buy the rumoured 6″ Apple Tablet.

Posted on 19 August 2009

None of the Apple Tablet rumours up until now had interested me. A 9 inch, 10 inch or 12 inch slate just doesn’t excite but he latest rumour from Business Week does. Apple has developed prototypes of two different tablet machines—one that resembles a large-sized iPod and boasts a 6-inch screen….Apple’s tablet may cost as little as $679, Doherty says. Then there’s the Apple software mystique. “Apple has a real opportunity to take the magic of the iPhone interface and give that more real estate to do the tasks,” Kay […]

Is the CrunchPad the next HTC Shift?

Posted on 18 August 2009

Does anyone remember the excitement about the HTC Shift that resulted in a series of total showstoppers that caused it to fade quickly from public view?  Battery life, screen resolution and (slow) operating system were my personal deal-breakers and if there’s one thing I’ve learnt from 3 years of product blogging it’s that people are very quick to get excited about a product en masse but when it comes to the crunch, there’s often a show stopper that kills interest, en masse. The Crunchpad has been at number 1 in […]
