After seeing that US online prices for high-end Ultrabooks have dropped 22% from the original launch prices, it’s good to see other countries showing similar price drops. This Amazon.co.uk offer on a Toshiba Satellite Z830 is particularly interesting. £698.80 is 22% below list price! [US Readers – This is a 120% consumer price that includes sales tax. Business buyers pay around £580]
I’m a Z830 user myself so I can vouch for this Ultrabook. You’ve got all the ports you need, a great SSD (ignore the reports of poor write speeds, it performs exactly when you need it) and the backlit keyboard is something you’ll never want to lose once you’ve had it. The Z830-10T on offer here has the Core i3 CPU at 1.4Ghz. (Without Turbo Boost as seen on other Ultrabooks.)

If you’ve been looking at getting the best specifications into your Ultrabook choice you are likely to have the Toshiba Z830 at the top of your list. With a backlit keyboard, SSD, Intel WiFi module with Wi-Di and My-Wifi support, full size set of ports including VGA, HDMI and SDXC, all in the lightest weight possible, the Toshiba Z830 with Core i5 promises a lot. But that’s just specifications and real-world is sometimes very different. Fortunately the Z830 delivers, although it has one possible showstopper hidden away beyond the specs and a few little niggles that might put you off. You can read about them in the full Toshiba Z830 review below. Thanks to Toshiba Europe for sending the Z830-10J over for review.

The Toshiba Satellite Z830 (Z830-10J, Core i5) is here and the waiting is finally over. This is one of the most popular of the Ultrabooks out there right now due to its feature set, weight and, in the USA, an interesting price on the Core i3 version. I’ve unboxed it on video for you below but wanted to also give you a heads-up on the Live Review that will be run tomorrow, Friday the 16th at 2100 CET (Berlin, Your local time is listed here.) You can drop into the live review, watch the video, chat with people in the chat room and also ask me questions on the Z830 and Ultrabooks in general.
Some Toshiba Z830 first impressions and an unboxing video below.

We’ve just had a note from Toshiba Europe to say that the Toshiba Satellite Z830-10J is now shipping in Germany, Austria and, I believe, the Benelux area. Specs are as we have then in the database (note it’s the Satellite and not the Portege in Europe…so far) and the official spec list confirms a matt screen. (Entspiegelt) Recommended retail price is €1099 but I see a number of retailers offering it for €999. Amazon for example. (Toshiba Satellite Z830-10J

Following the discovery of two models of the Z830 in Europe yesterday we got a tip pointing us to the complete line-up at the Toshiba UK website. As we reported last week, the Z830 appears under both the Satellite and Portégé brands.
Lets get straight to the details.

Excellent news! I was worried that the entry level Toshiba Z830 would be above €1000 but it’s not. The Toshiba Satellite Z830 Ultrabook is available for pre-order in Europe (or at least in Germany and UK) for €999. Even Amazon Germany are listing it. [Z830 At Amazon – Aff.]
Update: Toshiba UK are now listing a range of models.

The model we’ve found at at least four retailers is the Toshiba Satellite Z830-10J (4GB, Core i5 2467 @1.6Ghz, 128GB SSD and delivery estimates range through November.
